ChatGPT Is Now Better at Strategic Problem-Solving Than I Am

It just hit me: ChatGPT is now better at strategic problem-solving than I am. I don't know when this tipping point happened, but I can see it so clearly now. I'm wondering whether you've noticed it too.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still the human in the loop, bringing context and making decisions. But I brought ChatGPT a messy problem, and I expected help organizing my thoughts. Instead of our usual process, where I iterate "the next question" based on its responses, it took the lead.

ChatGPT began organizing a process for solving the problem.

• It asked me to choose between options.

• It surfaced constraints I hadn't named yet.

• It kept track of my answers.

• It knew what question needed to come next.

I realized I wasn't leading the thinking process anymore.

And here was the shocker for me: some of the questions it asked were better than the ones I would have asked myself.

I've been doing strategic work with schools for decades. AI can now hold the entire problem space and guide me through it, step by step.
